Story of The Good Samaritan
The Parable of The Good Samaritan is a timeless story that teaches us about kindness, compassion, and the importance of helping others. Jesus answers the question "Who is my neighbor?", teaching us how to follow the command to "love thy neighbor". It's perfect for teaching children about empathy during Vacation Bible School, Sunday School or even at home. With this lesson, not only can kids learn the moral of the story, but they can also engage in fun and creative crafts that bring the concept to life! Links for crafts used will be left below.
Craft activities can be a wonderful way to reinforce the lessons learned in the Good Samaritan parable. Here is what we used during our Children's story hour this week.
Felt Story telling
Using Bible felt is a great visual that helps little ones stay engaged in the story. In this lesson I purchased some Bible clip art from Etsy then printed and ironed on to felt and cut out. This was very simple and easy to do! If you do not have the supplies to create your own felt you can print images on to normal printer paper, laminate and stick Velcro on the back. This makes the images stick to the felt board and works just as well.

Props
I personally love using props as an extra addition to really bring the story together! Your props don't need to be elaborate to keep children engaged. I have used backdrops before but with this month's lesson I put together some simple things that you might already have laid around the house! In the Story of the Good Samaritan, the Samaritan man bandaged up the Jewish man who was robbed and beat near to death. For some props I set up a small table with a first aid kit that I already had at home, a bottle of olive oil and a plush donkey I ordered from Amazon (link will be left below) as well as a bag of fake golden coins that I had from previous stories. At the end of the story, I wanted the children to have something to take home that would help them remember what they learned from the lesson. I designed printable doctor bags as a craft that say, "I can be a good Samaritan". These made perfect gift baggies that I filled with band aids, gauze and golden coins. These were pre-colored but there is a black and white version for children to color on their own.
